A new specialized orthopaedic facility has been established in Liberec, aimed at expanding regional surgical care capacity and implementing modern technological procedures. The new Movela clinic is expected to significantly reduce waiting times for orthopaedic surgeries. The project, initiated by orthopaedic surgeon Robert Švígler, was financially supported by entrepreneur Dalibor Dědek and created in the former multifunctional Avicena building in the city centre, where the facility is to provide comprehensive care for the musculoskeletal system. The founding team of the clinic consists of 45 people. In the future, the hospital is expected to employ up to 150 staff members, not only in medical professions but also in nursing care, rehabilitation, administration, and technical operations.
The concept of the clinic is based on the integration of diagnostics, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation within a single facility, which is intended to contribute to shorter waiting times and increased treatment efficiency. The five-storey building includes an outpatient section, diagnostic facilities, an intensive care unit, rehabilitation facilities, and specialized outpatient clinics. A key element consists of three super-aseptic operating theatres with laminar airflow, enabling a high capacity of orthopaedic procedures, with up to 2,500 planned annually. The project involved a team of Czech and international experts. A large amount of technology is concealed in the suspended ceilings; the total length of cabling alone is approximately 120 kilometres.
Technology
The technologies installed in the operating theatres are intended to enable the presentation of new surgical procedures in orthopaedics and implants. Technologically, the system is interconnected so that operations are recorded by cameras and then transmitted live, including audio, into two lecture halls. These will also serve as a training centre.
The technological concept of the facility emphasizes minimally invasive and robot-assisted procedures, while also supporting educational activities through the transmission of surgical procedures. The project also pursues economic sustainability — the investment in reconstruction and equipment reached approximately CZK 700 million, and total costs are estimated to approach CZK 1 billion. After stabilization of operations, the facility is expected to gradually achieve self-sufficiency and reinvest funds into further development.
The architectural design reflects both the requirements of healthcare operations and patient comfort, and the technical infrastructure is to a significant extent integrated into the building structures. For example, glass was used extensively. The walls thus have an improved appearance and are easier to clean.
An important part of the technological background is the central sterilization unit, ensuring a high level of hygienic safety.
Thanks to entrepreneur Dalibor Dědek, founder of the company Jablotron, who invested more than CZK 700 million in the reconstruction and equipment of the building, the new clinic was able to afford the most modern technologies available on the market, including a state-of-the-art central sterilization unit equipped with our devices.
Two STERIVAP 666-2 steam sterilizers, one HYPER LTS 150-2 plasma sterilizer, and three UNICLEAN PL II 10-2 washer-disinfectors have been installed in the central sterilization unit.
We do believe that even in this demanding environment, where high requirements are placed particularly on the reliability of equipment, our technology will perform to the satisfaction not only of the investor and the staff, but also of the patients of the new Movela clinic.
